Thailand Parliament postpones vote to select new Prime Minister pending court ruling - The Hindu

Thailand’s House of Representatives Speaker, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, announced on Tuesday that the scheduled vote in Parliament to select a new Prime Minister, expected later in the week, will be postponed. This decision adds to the increasing uncertainty surrounding the formation of a new government, more than two months after the general election.

The postponement comes in response to a request from the state ombudsman for the Constitutional Court to rule on the legality of barring Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat from being nominated as a prime ministerial candidate for the second time. Pending the court’s decision, the vote for the new Prime Minister, initially planned for Thursday, will be put on hold.

This delay prolongs the political uncertainty in Thailand and further complicates the process of forming a new government. The outcome of the court ruling will have significant implications for the country’s political landscape and the selection of its next leader.
